Thanks everyone. VWTattoo, exactly!!! Do me the common courtesy of a "i'm sorry" note, because I DO know things happen... but what can ya do?
Yeah it was just sitting in the parking lot. I work at a college so I'm not terribly shocked, just really upset about it because I hate having ONE repainted body panel. Anthony you're right tho, it'll be a simple repair since its just the fender and not the hood or quarter panel or something, so that's a bit comforting.

you need the batmobile shield of protection.....
Or just carry some orange cones and yellow caution police line don't cross tape in your trunk and set it up in a ring around your car when you park it.
I actually usually refuse to drive my car places where I will have to park it....or I park far away.

Here's a thought....
when parked, a simple panoramic camera suspended from the ceiling of the car. if the car gets scraped or bumped, the alarm detects this, turns the camera on and takes 5 minutes of digital snapshots stored on a card. alarm also uses a paging system to your wrist watch to let you know something is up. The camera detaches easily from the ceiling when you come back to the car. the camera photos can be downloaded in to your computer much like a regular digital camera.

makes me wanna hook up a webcam and put it by the window. I have enough hard drive space to record an entire day's worth of low res. I only need enough to tell me who in my apt complex dings my door. You know what.. I think I'm gonna do it!
Hey, for all you out there with webcams, did you know there was software for your webcam that would detect motion? It can then upload those pictures to your website, so you can watch your stuff from work.
