There is four pics so give them a minute to load. Do you think I could mass produce these for the stock spare tire and sell a ton of them?
I am working on the trim piece as we speak, any ideas? Maybe there is something I havent thought of.
Thanks guys,
Rodric

I hardly know anything about audio....but I'll say it's quite a cool looking concept! Good luck with it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I have decided not to become an instant millionaire and tell you how to do this.
The "box" is just a 16" sonotube (because I have an 18" spare tire I can fit this. You will probably need a 14"er for the stock spare but not sure.
The wood on the bottom needs to be cut out so the bump in the hatch floor can come through. I re-used the stock spare hold down screw to hold the box to the floor with another piece of MDF. I lined the bottom of the box with VB12 sound deadening from Defcon 5 to eliminate rattles. You have to raise the tire up a bit to keep it from hitting the speaker.
All in all it cost me $60 to build the box and took about 2 hours. If you arent proficient in box building let me know, Im sure we can work something out for your stock spare tire!I was thinking around $100 plus shipping. You can email me at [email protected]
Thanks guys,
Rodric

Re: I (jettanjax)

Your pictures didnt load but I assume you are talking about the JL Stealthbox for these cars. Its a great deal at what they charge for it, $400-$500 NOT!! I will stick with the $60 box that sounds just as good.

Oh also, if you are interested in these and email [email protected] please put ATTN: Rodric in the email or else it wont get to me it will go to the sales team (they arent great about forwarding email)
Thanks
would that affect the sound of the sub being under the spare and the carpet?
Re: I (01GTi2Quick)

are you glassing it at all?
Re: I (rs4-380)

dude, i would be so interested in buying box from you!!
i have a Eclipse 88120.4 subwoofer 12"
could you fabricate one for me, i have a jetta, mdf wood
and carpeted black??
let me know the specifics, i'll paypal you the money.
and most important question is, how does it sound??
i currently have a sealed box, i just want it to sound as good as that.
thanks

Re: I (Umbro*VR6)

not to burst your bubble - but Landspeed sells a 8 inch and a 10 inch box designed to fit in the stock spare tire - you can buy it seperately from their audio upgrade kit- think it's $125 for the 8 inch - and $175 for the 10 inch - and even comes with a cool little bag to put your tools in.......not sure the kind of woofer used but i've heard it sounds good -
I don't work for them of have one - just have talked to them about it -
http://www.landspeedusa.com is the site I think.........
Re: I (JettaManDan)

Who doesn't see the functionality in this design, apart from where you would put the jack and tire iron.. The JL Audio and Landspeed enclosure use up the entire spare tire well. What happens when you get a flat? Wait for the towtruck b/c u don't have a spare. This way you can have your cake and eat it too! Where would you store the jack and iron? Nice design 01GTi2Quick! Bump!

Re: I (Adubz16)

My jack and all tools are in the compartment where the monsoon is. They are wrapped in cloth so they dont make any noise and fit just perfect.
To the member who asked about purchasing an enclosure.
To the member who asked about purchasing an enclosure.
We are currently working on the design for the stock 16" spare for the GTi. The box would come assembles however you will need to cut your own hole for your woofer and carpet it (carpet will come with the box in any color you wish) It sounds great and we have had no complaints from myself or the 1 other gentleman which we have made one for. Once fabrication is complete I will put up a post with the final volume (very important for good sound reporduction) and you will be able to then determine if it will work with your woofer.
To the member who was going to "burst my bubble"
This design is better than the landspeed for 3 reasons:
1) It is VERY lightweight, the enclosure weighs under 15lbs before the woofer is loaded.
2) Most people want a brand name sub that they trust, with this they can pick their own and install it themselves.
3) Its coming from a VWVortex member, what more can you ask for
