go take pics of the intersection, if you can. Sue the city. a few people on this board have been sucessful with this. I dunno if you can, but its worth a shot!

No idea the exact costs, but an oilpan is a few hundred. No where near $500... however, if the oil pump is damaged, it may be closer to that deductable.
But it was a slow leak, so I'm guessing it wasn't tooo bad.
Suck though, sorry to hear that. I live in fear of the raised man hole covers.
Re: I busted my oilpan last night (Majik6)

I just recently put a grape fruit size dent in my oil pan. I took it off and I found out that my oil pump was also cracked in half. I ordered a new oil pan, gasket, and oil pump from the Pottermans for $300. So the dealer will definitly going to cost you.

Make sure when the county looks at the car that it falls within legal specs(in the area you live) for ride height. If it is too low they will just laugh at you and tell you to sue them.
Re: I busted my oilpan last night (Majik6)

If your insurance is going to cover it than I guess it doesn't really matter, but it is pretty easy to swap an oil pan..

Re: I busted my oilpan last night (mrglx)

That happened to me a couple years ago. Get it looked over really carefully by the dealership. I ended up with a cracked block, and had to have the bottom end replaced.
Re: I busted my oilpan last night (pumpkin02)

might as well try the 'make the city pay for it' route. im not sure how much it is to get it fixed but theres no reason not to try it. im waiting to hear back from them about my 4 bent rims...we'll see
Re: I busted my oilpan last night (Severance)

What ever happened to the Skid plate person? I followed the thread and no outcome yet. any other route?
Sorry to hear that man, mine is just about to go too.
Re: I busted my oilpan last night (Majik6)

Majik6- Where is this pothole? I live in College Park right now too. I wanna make sure I don't hit it either!
Re: I busted my oilpan last night (Severance)

Once I hit a pot hole and blew my tire and destroyed my rim. The city wasn't at all hesitant to cut me a check to cover the repairs, a rental car, and for all the trouble that it was for me to bother with it.

The pothole is on Route 1 when your heading towards DC leving CP.. like right after Applebees. It's all kinds of focked up there. I guess they are doing construction there and the pavement is all grooved and nasty. The manholes are NASTY. I mean, seriously it looks like those things are raised up outta the ground more than 4 - 5 inches or something. It's about 5 - 6 blocks long of bad pavement. Keep an eye out cos if you run into that area without knowing you can bang some sh!te up pretty bad.
Re: I busted my oilpan last night (Majik6)

Oil pan and gasket - approx $115 (www.germanautoparts.com)
5mm T-handle allen wrench - $5 ? (pep boys)
jack stands - free from your friend
30-45 minutes of your time - free
Changing your oil pan yourself so the dealer can't charge you $200 for parts and $100 for labor - priceless

I can't dooo anything now though since it's at the dealership already!

Unless I get it towed again, which would cost me some more $$$
