Split Second is pleased to announce the release of the 1.8T BCS for 2002 Volkswagen and Audi applications. It took a little longer than we expected to work out the details, but we think you will agree that it was worth the wait.

First off, the horsepower and torque gains are phenomenal. On the 2000 and 2001 cars we saw around 35 hp and 43 ft-lbs at the wheels. Because of the 180 hp rating of the 2002 cars, we didn’t want to overstate our expectations and told people that we anticipated 25 hp and 43 ft-lbs. We were quite pleasantly surprised to see gains of 43 hp and 50 ft-lbs at the wheels on the 2002 GTI with 5-speed. A jpeg of the actual dyno sheet is attached.

What we learned in the development of the 2002 version of the BCS is that the required calibration for the various models and engine codes is different. Our solution was to add a calibration adjustment on the rear panel of the BCS. Not only does this assure proper calibration and full power for every 2002 model, it also improves the performance on earlier model years as well. Proper calibration is easily done by the end user as part of the initial setup.

The 1.8T BCS is offered as an alternative to chipping the throttle-by-wire 1.8T engine. It is about half the price of most chips. It can be installed in a few hours whereas the chip involves removing the ECU from the car and sending it away. This process usually takes at least 3 days. The BCS is adjustable which is especially nice if you are running regular unleaded fuel, are on slippery roads, take your car in for service or lend your car to someone. The BCS also provides a boost gauge so you can see how much boost you are making at all times.

Other features of the BCS are that it has an EO number form CARB making it smog legal. It does absolutely nothing until you reach 3/4 throttle. This means that the drivability, emissions and fuel economy will be stock most of the time. The additional boost provided by the BCS ramps in only when demanded by wide open throttle. Therefore the character of the car is unchanged until you need the additional power for passing, merging etc.

The 1.8T BCS does not require that you change anything else on your car. We have verified that there is plenty of fuel to support the higher boost. On somewhere between 5 and 10% of cars we have seen, the diverter valve needs to be upgraded in order to support the higher boost. We do not recommend replacing your stock diverter valve unless you need to. The only other recommendation is that you drive around taking it easy after running the car hard. The cool air entering the engine compartment will reduce the oil and turbo temperature to safe levels. Never run your car hard and just turn off the engine.

Complete installation instructions are provided with every 1.8T BCS. The installation of the BCS involves getting to the ECU in the car. The covers on the two connectors on the ECU are removed so you can see the rows of pins on the connectors. You identify the correct wires to connect to by connector location and wire color code. All connections are made to the wiring harness about 8 inches from the ECU. Four connections are T-taps made using two-part T-tap connectors that are provided. One wire in the car's wire harness is cut. Each side of the cut wire is connected to wires to the BCS. There are a total of six connections.

The BCS can be installed by a knowledgeable end user. We recommend that the installer be familiar with automotive wiring. A person comfortable installing a car stereo or alarm can generally do the job. For those people who are not comfortable doing the install, we recommend having the install done by a reputable performance shop. Roughly half of our customers do the install themselves.

The 1.8T BCS comes with a warranty that guarantees that the unit will be free of defect for one year. Split Second stands behind its product. Anyone who purchased a 1.8T BCS in the last year and would like the calibration feature will be accommodated. We will send out the required parts to upgrade the unit externally or take it back and upgrade it internally for no charge.

Many people are concerned about what the installation of the BCS might do to their warranty. Warranty coverage is up to individual dealers. Some dealers refuse to work on cars that have aftermarket parts while others don’t mind. Some dealers actually sell the 1.8T BCS. If you are concerned about it we recommend that you talk to your local dealer.

The 1.8T BCS can be ordered directly from Split Second by calling (949)863-1359. The order can be processed with a VISA or Mastercard. Despite the addition of the calibration feature we are holding the price at $249. Shipping via UPS ground anywhere in the U.S. costs an additional $7.50.

Call today and find out for yourself how much extra power is hidden in your 1.8T engine.

Calculating a 15% loss at the Driveline And adding it back as a Crank Number that would mean top end would be about 230+ HP at the Crank. Damn more than a Quattro TT

I can believe the numbers for the 2000 and 2001 cars but 43 on top of the 180 on the 2002 cars, I find this hard to belive with our turbo, they would have to be running very close to 20psi, if not more. I would like to see that this is true, but I am a little skeptical. What do I know anyway!!!!!!

Don't warry it's not. It was bassed on 149hp stock and 192hp 199tourque with the BCS. still not bad though. i only made 173hp 203tourque on my AWD. Maybe i should get the pod and see if i can fine tune. Be interesting to see what happens. I am emailing Revelate with the dyno. I can't seem to remember my angelfires username so can't host them.

The Split Second numbers aren't bad at all, but their stock GTI is a dog. My bone stock '02 Jetta put down 158hp 172tq on a Dynojet 248c. No way their Dynojet could be out of calibration on the low side and still pull off the runs they did with the BCS.

interesting the comment of "bcs setting of 55"....must see their calibrator..it is just a 500K pot in seires with the old blue wire.
2001gti, you should definitely upgrade your unit, playing with the config seems to affect the boost roll-off at upper rpms, with the wire cut it might roll off too soon, ie your max hp # could be a little low. have you done a block 115 log since you cut the config wire?
i'll do some logging once it warms up a bit, 10 degrees was a bit too cold to be beating on the car.
I added a tuning pot to my bcs and it cured the throttle plate closing, it works GREAT now. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Split Second is badass. They responded to my email within 10 minutes and offered to send me a calibration retrofit kit for free.

Hey Scotty, When i get it i am going back to the dyno and running some runs. Is any one willing to take my dyno and photo shop it to the dyno above so i can see the difrence between the two. You can get my dyno at http://www.angelfire.com/apes/20valve/ Take dyno number one.
If you notice that my wast gate looks like it is opening to soon. The T and H crossed at 5.3rpms on the 2002 and on my car it crossed at 4.7rpms

quote:

brought my laptop today so i have a few plots/pics to put up tonight. MAF plot is pretty dramatic with the config fix!

we're waiting...

if anyone wants to see a block 120 on a wolfsburg (aww), i think this was my best one...

my dv is chattering like a little school girl, so i dunno if that makes much difference in the power or not. still, pretty damn impressive, imo.
(i'd really like to see what you come up with scott. are you doing tests with the pot, or just the resistor you put in?)
