i got a dirty pipe

I took out the intake rubber hose on my 2.0L that runs to the throttle body today and it was NASTY!!!!!!!!! It has a layer of what looks like a mixture of gunk and grease. Is this normal? My car has 107000 miles on it and I don't think I have ever cleaned it out. I gues I just answered my own question. Has anyone ever had this happen and what will clean it out safely?
