Re: I guess TT *rear* brake upgrade is too impractical (Helicon Twist)

Way too much money.
I say go with the new ECS kit. uses stock calipers. it's not vented, but drilled/slotted.

I *think* ECS sells the rear TT kit for wayyy les. Although, I could be mistaken. Give them a call. Either way, you def. want to do the fronts first anyway.

No.. they are for the rear... Look at the caliper, it has the Emergency Brake Mechanism.

Re: I guess TT *rear* brake upgrade is too impractical ( euro 20v)

OK gents,
I just got a set of 2001 audi TT quattro 225 vented rear calipers and carries for $300 delivered from http://www.car-part.com
I still need rotors/pads/stainless brake lines which I was planning on getting from ECS ($200)... and new dust shields from IMPEX ($40)
You don't need to remove or replace the hubs to install the brakes... You have to cut the OEM rear dust shield off, then modify the TT dust shield (slight dremeling of the bolt holes) to be able to install it. Well worth the time to save the time/money to not have to pull and replace the hubs.
The only difference between the 337 and TT rear is this... The "red" 337 rear brakes are a direct bolt on replacement on the MKIV platform, the TT brakes require a spacer to be fabricated and longer bolts, as seen here in ECS "TT upgrade kit"

ECS WILL NOT sell the spacer by itself...
Imagine that.
RPI-Equipped sells a similar spacer for $39. Longer hardened bolts can be gotten from McMaster-Carr for about 3 bucks.
I Plan on taking the spacer from RPI and fabricating my own spacer to sell at cost to fellow dubbers...
That's it.
My rear TT upgrade cost less than $600...

TT brake upgrade less than $800, front and back - uses stock calipers and pads though, so throw in a few extra bucks for the Mintex pads or something.

yeah, upgrading the rears is way too pricey, and not worth it from a performance standpoint. first off, the rears only accouint for about 30% of stopping power. better off upgrading the fronts OR - just upgrade the pads all around and get some max performance rubber. i g'tee you'll stop as as quick or quicker than someone w/ big, crossdrilled rotors & stock pads/rubber. check the brake forum for the realities & myths of big brakes.

I wish, the Evo upgrade kit moves you to TT180 FWD spec 12.3" vented
F/9.1" solid R with cross-drilled & slotted rotors.
The kits in question upgrade to 10.1" vented rears with the needed new
calipers. I just had a long chat about this with Jordan.

Re: I guess TT *rear* brake upgrade is too impractical (awwsheeet)

anyone know if the R32 brakes are a bolt on to non-R32 mk4's like mine? Someone told me they are similar to 25th anniv GTi/337 brakes.
I know it sounds cheesy but i prefer blue calipers over red ones.
