I have a long block out of a 95 jetta. I will be building it up to put it in my 01 GTI. The engine is a double chain type. Do i have to convert it to a single chain design like my 01 vr6. Is there any other things i should look into before starting on this engine. I already made sure it has the spot for the passanger side motor mount. Is there anything else. Thanks.

I am pretty sure the blocks are the same. So it should fit fine. The only thing that would be used off the 95 motor is the block and head....everything else will come off the 01 motor.....accessries...intake...stuff like that.

Hmmm, I was told that they were different cuz a VGi wouldn't work on a newer VR6(not talking bout the 24v ones) could have misread it or remember it incorrectly, I'd check first though

The motor mount placements are different on the newer cars. The newer blocks have the extra casting. You maybe SOL. The newer blocks will fit into the A3 - no prob. You'll need the timing chains, gears and side cover to make the transistion.

Listen to JIM..motor mounts are different on a MKIV, they will swap on a MKIII but to do the reverse you will have to be "creative" to fit your MKIII engine in the MKIV...it can be done...but it aint bolt on believe me...

I was told by Dave at eastside that as long as the block had these L shaped 3 bolts everything would be fine. He said not all of the older blocks have it. Anyone know if this is ture.
