I have a line on a '66 bug, but don't know the first thing...

I come from the A4 school, but am becoming more and more interested in the older dubs. I have aline on a 66 bug, cheap. But I don't know what I should be looking for or what questions I should be asking. Can anyone help me out with specs such as what the engine is, ect ect. I might be going to look @ it today, as it was a referral from a friend.

If Canadian models were like United States models, you'll see something like:
1965: 1.2L engine
1966: 1.3L engine, "1300" badge on the back, last year of "old" headlights
(not sealed beam)
1967: 1.5L engine, sealed beam headlights, reverse lights on rear bumper, last year of small oval taillights with turn signal in the top half, last year of "old" bumpers, last year of fuel filler in front trunk, last year of front seats without head restraints
1968: 1.5L engine, one piece bumpers, flat bottom taillights with turn signal on top and reverse light on bottom, external fuel filler (door does not lock), front seats had integral head restraint, steering column is collapsible during a crash, last year of swing axle
1969: 1.5L engine, fuel door locks (release in glove compartment), double joint rear axle
The swing axles found on 1968 and older models can allow the rear tires to wear unevenly (e.g. if the car sags, the inside of the rear tires will wear out faster than the outside).

things to check 4:
floorpan rust
rear parcel tray rust
rear qtr panel rust
heater channell rust
these are most common and the biggest pain to fix.

oh yea and if its a salt mobile then definately check the framehead. it will rust out too.

as far as 66 goes its a good year with the exception of 6 volt electrics. if it hasant been changed to 12v yet plan on several hundred for that. but like i said overall a good year. if it is drivable with minimal rust is worth atleast a grand. its hard to find a running bug these days for less than that. happy dubbing!!!!
