Does the chip have to learn the car?
If so how long does it take?
What should i do during that period (or not do for that matter)?
And finally where did you get your info?
Props to Jeremy @ MATRIX

I think the car has to learn the chip (chicken/egg?). Anyway, there should be instructions with the chip. As I recall, after installation you turn the ignition on (don't start the car) and let it set for a couple minutes. Then you start the car and let it idle for some time. Finally, you are supposed to drive it real hard to break it in.
That's roughly the procedure. Someone may have more details.

According to the instructions that came with my chip, "Full adaptation of the ECU may take up to two full days of operartion". You'll notice a difference right away then the next day you may notice that the car pulls a little bit harder than the previous day. At least that is what I noticed when I installed mine. I hope that helps.

disconnect battery
install chip (a real pain with that gall dang holder thingy it's in, or at least mine took a bit of finagling).
reconnect battery
key on for 2 minutes
idle for 2 minutes, do not touch throttle during this time
drive, and allow for 2 or so days for full adaptation (drive it however you want)

Re: I have a question about the GIAC. My GIAC chip just came in.

Had mine installed at Shine's Racing Service. Install chip, let idle for 10-20 min, drove for 1 day with irregular idle (didn't stall but bounced from 1,000 - 500 RPM's for about 10 seconds at every stop light). After 2 days it totally learned the new chip and I felt the difference, especially between gears at about 2,500-4,000 RPM's, no need to downshift going uphill in 4th gear anymore. The 7,200 REV limiter change is instant after the install.

Instantly smoothed my idle(268 cams) and Rocked from the first time I took it to 7300 http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Just make sure your grounded while doing the install. You could screw up the whole computer if you don't. Not many people hav had that problem but it is a possibility.

I have a question about the GIAC.... ([email protected])

I never did the warm up period on my chip, I just put it in recently and there doesn'tseem to be any problem with it. Is the key on for 2 min without starting a requirement or a precaution? What harm will it cause if I didn't do it? I started the car up, let it warm up for a few minutes, then onramp dyno tested it for the next day or so. If something bad can happen I would be interested in hearing.
