i posted this question in the mkIV forum yesterday but i can't seem to get a response from anyone; hopefully i'll have better luck in here

i'm just wondering if anyone knows how dark you can tint your car windows in nj? i had heard that it was illegal altogether, but i assume that there's a legal limit not an all out ban (i hope). any help is greatly appreciated. thx in advance vortexers http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: i hope this is the right place... a question (shippingnews)

in jersey, the back 3 windows can be any percentage.
however, the driver, passenger and windshield cannot be tinted at all.
depending on where you live, you can get away with it to some degree.
i am thinking of getting either 35% or 50% depending on how dark i want to go.
hope that helps.

yes, that helps a lot.
thx for the info.
perhaps i'll just go with a light tint so as to attract as little attention as possible.
thx again http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Call your state's dept of motor vehicles or just ask a state trooper.
Each state is different.
Was driving in 91, a custom built T-Bird for the company that had built it, for them from Vegas, following the SEMA show, down to LA. The tint was legal in KC where it was built, but got pulled over and ticketed outside Barstow by a Chip for too dark on the front windows.
