What are the values of the fuses, and the gauges of the wires running from the battery to the distribution block, and from there to the amps? I'm assuming 4ga to the distribution block, and 8ga to the amps. What amps are they, too?

correct, 4 gauge to a spliter which has two 50 amp fuses, can i put a bigger amp fuse in ther radio shack only sells 60 aqnd 40 amp fuses?
i think it blew because i was tinkering with the wires going into the subs, would that blow it if i didint no disconncet my battery and unhooked my subs?
thanks

You'll be fine with the 60A fuses. Your amps are fine as long as you haven't touched the speaker leads together when the amp was on. A 50A fuse is very small for an 800W amp, although I wouldn't use a fuse much larger than 60A (80A absolute max but only for short runs).

waht does the ampeture of the fuse do?
so i replaced the fuses in the spliter only to find the intermediate fuse coming from my battery was blown, took off negative, took off positive, replaced fuse put back positive, put back negative, there was a big spark when i put the negative on and it blew the fuse that i jsut replaced, now why the hell didi that happen???????

now i have no stereo at all, rrrrrrrggggg
thanks charlie

I would think you have a short somewhere.... did you see where the spark came from? Sounds like this happened without the stereo even on. You would have to take out all the fuses and do it one by one to find out where the bad connection is.

Re: I need help please, everybody look (Ringo)

the spark came from the negative side of the battery as i rconnected it, i think the spark is from my alarlm clicking on.
would it short out if i had my door open and the dome light was on? i realized that after thinking about for a while, but would it short out the fuse?

maybe my amp is blown would that cause the fuse to blow?

Take the fuse from the alarm line (aftermarket alarm or are you talking about the immobilzer system on the VW? Is so, I have no idea....

I can't imagine that this is the case. Again....I would remove ALL the fuses from the line and add them one by one until something blows (front of the car back). This is without running the radio (leave it completely off). This way, you may be able to see where the short is.

It sounds like you have a short in your power cable run. Check the cable and make sure there are no cuts or that it is grounding out anywhere. If it's not that then, I'd check your wire connections at your amps maybe one of the wires are touching each other. The only other thing it could be is something internal with the amp.
I'm assuming that you have two amps considering you have a distribution block in the back. I'd take the fuse out for the amp you were originally having problems with, replace the one under the hood, and turn it all on.
If the fuses don't blow then you know that it is something with that one amp. Check all of the connections on that amp and replace the fuse. See what happens, if the fuse blows again, don't replace it. Take the amp to a dealer and have it fixed or replaced.
Good luck!!!

Has to be the power wire from the battery to the distribution block has a short somewhere....Follow it from the battery to the block and see if somewhere that wire is touching metal...that would blow the fuse. If not take both fuses out of the distribution block then refuse the under hood fuse and see if it is still blowing...If not then one of the amps or power wires going to it is shorted. Putting a larger fuse in the holder will only make that power wire short more until the fuse blows - sometimes melting the fuse or burning something up....
