I need some tech info on a quantum.

the car is a mid 80s 5 cyl quantum wagon with an auto trans. Im thinking of picking it up for 300 bucks, It needs struts, and maybe a few other things, are the struts just like that of an a2?? or are they set up differently, meaning can I use my a2 strut nut to get them off. also how are vw auto trannies?? I know they arent performance based, but are they reliable? and how about performance parts?? like springs and struts, do they make them??

No, but they are the same as Audi 4000 (up front at least)

you can use your A2 tools to get teh struts off. The design is quite similar, but not exact same parts.

AFAIK they Audi 3-speed Auto tranny is not the best unit in the world. Ask the general Audi forum about this.

Shocks and springs are very hard to find (rear axle especially) but engine upgrades are no problem, the sky (or your wallet) is the limit here.

The B2 Passat (Quantum) is exactly the same car as the Audi 4000. The only differences are different taillights, headlights, hood, bumpers, fenders, and emblems.

It is easier to say that the only similarities are the engine, tranny and front suspension.

Well, they also share doors, windows, interior, etc...
It's like the difference between a Ford Crown Victoria and a Mercury Grand Marquis.

They do not share doors, they do not share windows and maybe only the front seats are similar. Door panels, dash board, console, rear seat etc, all are different. I myself have owned an 84 4000q, both my brother and sister have had an 87 Quantum each, so I know these cars well.
