I am looking to see what the smoked MK4 look headlight for MK3 look like with HID? I can probably photoshop the HId part, but does anyone have experience with HID's and the Mk4 smoke looked headlights? Thanks. Any pics of the smoked MK4 look lights would be great. Thanks

Has anyone even tried? They are H7 HID. I am going to have this setup this summer. Osram Ballasts and 6000k bulbs. My friend is getting some custom kist made for me for really cheap (sub $500 for everything). These are top of the line, and even though not as white as 4300, they are still hella bright and look GREAT! I just wanted to make sure the MK4 housing low beam was good projection for HId. Peace

That is the proper way to do the MK$'s in HID since a projector was swappped in...I think he means he wants to run HID in the regular free from housing, which IMO is not an acceptable idea at all....

Wait, how come HID's in a normal smoked mk4 look for mk3's would be bad? I think it would be awesome. And instead of having day time running lights you have the orange bulbs inside on, That would be pretty sick.

I am thinking about getting the smoked dual round projectors with the h1 HID kit(custom-6000k bulbs with Osram ballasts), and the H3's as brights.
So any pics of Dual rounds smoked or not smoked with HID> thanks

HIDs in a non projector light dont set the light out properly and tend to blind other drivers.. almost all the car manufactures i believe that have HIDs on there cars have them in projectors.
Jorge's car. the one pictured with angel eyes.. has a 3 bmw projector and HID set up fitted in..

tru dat, you will have people flashing you, cops pulling you over left centre and right, you need a more "localized" beam pattern which only projectors give

Sean has a couple pics of his HIDs I think. I know two people here locally that have them too and they look great. Be careful of HIDs in A4 lights though, you'll be sure to get a ticket!

Mercedes uses freeform reflectors on most of their HID setups. But they are converting to projectors for all the bi-xenon setups.

The few OEM set ups that use a free form relfelector for HID's are using a modified HID bulb that has a coating on top...this helps reduce the glare, and more importantly send the light towards the road. No re-baser or after market HID retailer sells moddiifed bases for free form use. I say it is not a set up to even consider because not only does it give off a ton of glare, but you are also sending a lot of light to places other than the road...I did the Stage 2 HID's for the light it puts down to the road, not for looks. I was the first that I kow of to run Stage 2's in projectors on a Mk3 around here and have helped answer questions for many people who have gone out and gotten the same set up. I am not an expert, but instead speak from the experience I have had with my own, and the research I did before assembling my current set up....

So what about HID's (H1's) in smoked e-code GTI lights? The e-codes have a sharp cutoff that the MK4's don't have. Almost like the hella projectors. Been thinking about doing this - or maybe just some relays and 100w bulbs.

Thanks for those pics, EXACTY what I was looking for,g reat pics man. I will have the smoked Hella dual rounds projectors, with 6000K HID quality german man 5 year warranty bulb and Osram Ballest, custom kit from a friend who distributes quality HID systems. They should be about 10% dimmer then 4300K OEM style, however the color alone is amazing, and the glare is minimal with these headlamps. I am so excited! I am gonna have to get a kamei grill to go with them too,haha. Peace
