I have a set of 15x7 Phonedials that I was lucky enough to find in the junkyard last year. I didn't have a car to put them on at the time but I'm about to get an MK1 GTI that I am going to put them on. I want a little tire stretch (noticable) but I can't figure out what size tire to get. And please don't give me a tire size that can't be purchased in the US.
Thanx

165/45
but your gonna have to be somewhat low to make them look nice.

1. Its not an Mk1 GTI, its A mark 1 GTI
2. 165/45/15 Federals are the only tires that will do the trick. they are very small though so, like madtexture said, you're gonna have to be quite low.
195/45's will look good too, but not super stretched, just ever so slightly so

195 will not do if you're looking for stretch you will be disappointed. I run them on 8's and I would say the stretch is slight. 165/50 is a good option if you want some stretch without having to go supa dope low. be prepared to bend over to get a set right now.

I suggest Federal 165/50/15...the problem with Federals is that the sidewall is designed to be very thin man, so on mk1's you need to drop that efin thing to the floor to get the right stance with a Federal 165/45...the 50's would give you that little extra..
Federals 165/45 are perfect for Beetles though http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Get a x8 rim or higher if you want stretch, it kinda looks whack with 165s on a x7 wheel and is not worth the price of the tires. You can run 195s or 185s for cheap on a x8 wheel and look tight.

under $50 is too much for a tire?

Can't I just live in ignorance for one day?

Yeah, but every one of us understood what she meant when she said MK1.

165/45 tires are cheaper than 195/45

i say sy=tick with 165/50's...you dont want to go any lower with your wheel to the ground, its very hard and bumpy!
