Whats up guys. I have a 99 A4, 2.8. Im trying to swap in an s4 engine. From what I was told its pretty much a plug and play job. What concerns me is the tranny and all that jazz. Am I going to need to swap in a 6 speed or can I keep my 5 speed or what. I know the ecu might go a little crazy so tell me some stuff. Tell me what I need and what I need to do, any info will help. Please don't tell me to just buy an s4. This is something I want to do and get the learning experience from. So some info would be nice, if you don't have any info, please don't post dumb ****. Thanx in advance guys

Whats the condition of your a4? Does it not run? Do you have an s4 parts car? That would be the only way I could see a human being wanting to do this swap. For the cost of the motor, transmission, ecu, inter-coolers, interior trim, seats, cluster, bumpers, exhaust, fluids, and time; you could buy an s4. If you want a learning experience sell your a4 get an s4, pull the motor, and upgrade it to stage 3. Plus, when the time comes to sell it, you can list it as an S4 and not a hacked up a4.

my car has 150k on the motor. Im buying an s4 motor, with the pipes, turbo, ecu, with 68k on it. I dont really have money to buy a s4. The motor is only about 2k. Not very expensive

plug and play eh? How many A4's do you see running around with 2.7tt in them? Everyones level of difficulty is different. This is something that takes a great deal of patience and knowledge. And if not knowledge, then skill and heart. Bobby can probably point you in the right direction, but don't expect a cakewalk. And no way is your ecu gonna work. Your 2.8 does not have 2 turbo's feeding it...

Well I have the patience and heart thats for sure. I meant his ecu and my tranny. I was wondering if I was going to have to also get an s4 tranny or if mine will be ok with it, I also don't really see too many 2.8s. I always see the 1.8t's, because of the small amount of modding ability you have if you have the 2.8

best advice i can give is to put K04s in while you are doing the swap. dont mess around with the K03s as they will probably just blow and they are weak as far as power goes anyways..

just go stage 3 now and do it right the first time. you will want the 6 speed tranny as the 5 speed is not as strong. is your car quattro or fwd?

Your A4 is controlled by a ME5 Drive by Cable engine management and the S4 is controlled by a ME7 Drive by Wire engine management. In order to even fire the S4 motor in the A4, you will need to swap the S4 gas pedal assembly in and the ENTIRE wire harness that is under the dash. It is pretty much a complete swap of everything from one shell to another. It would be MUCH easier/cheaper for you to use the 2.8 transmission and the rest of the drivetrain. Just swap the motor and the wiring. Donor salvage S4 is the only way to go. I am working on the SAME EXACT swap now but the A4 shell is special, that is why it is going under the knife.

i bet in the long run you end up paying more to do the swap than you could have bought an s4 for after selling your a4.

so you get 5k for your A4 and then take the 2k you were gonna spend on the S4 motor, and there you have 7k for an S4. you can definitely find them around this price nowadays. but if you dont have any other money like you said, then i would really re think doing this swap or getting an s4 at all...

I don't expect to be able to throw it in. I figure its going to be a project. I'll have money to spend on the project as it comes along

I don't have any money to buy another car. Its also not worth that much so I can't sell it for a lot, and I also didnt expect to buy this guys motor right away, I'd hafta get 2k together first. So no, I can't just pick a 8000 dollar car and get it, I would have done that by now
