i know a few guys in this forum from http://www.netuners.com like kurt
and when next season comes around i would like to give it a shot, once the house and all that good stuff is settled with
i have a 97 jetta vr6 with a cup kit and soon sway bars and strut braces will be installed. is this a good thing to start with or should i go back to a 4 banger gti again?
whould should i look for and how should a car be set up?
i am new so be easy on me

and i will be joining scca in a week to check them out also, btw 16v sent me over here

Almost anything is a good car to start with. You (probably) won't be competitive in any car in your first few events, so something reliable and relatively stable is all you need. Iv'e seen way too many folks get all excited, dump gobs of cash into a project, then find out that autocross is really not for them. After a few events, look at what class you might want to run in, what it takes to compete in that class, and make your choices from there.

I knew I recognized that screen name.. Just to echo what Gazor said, it's best just to get out there and drive.. you'll know after a few events where you stand, and what you need to do to become competitive. I'd say don't do anything to the car yet. It's more fun to start off in the lower rankings and work your way up as you buy more parts and your skills increase. 97 Vr6 can be a great auto-x car. Good low end torque, not as heavy as the MKIV's. Best bet would be to go and drive like we keep asking

. Next year get some wheels and sticky tires so you don't shred your street tires.
