I went to the Chicago Auto Show last night.......

The show was great, I had a really good time. The VW display was cool, and I got to see the Jetta GLi, Passat W8, and NB Turbo S. The 6-speed on the GLi was very slick and there was no grinding whatsoever. It did feel a little rubbery, but it was very low effort. I asked a representative about the GLX Jetta with a 6-speed, and she said that VW is thinking about, but it won't be coming soon.

The Acura display was awesome, and I found out that the new 3.2CL-S is coming with a very precise 6-speed manual

The RSX sucked big time. It was a huge disappointment. The interior was horrible, but the shifter and seats were good.
Probably the most disappointing car was the Suburu WRX. The interior looked as if it came out a '92 Cavalier and the shifting was crap. The seat were comfortable.
Jaguar was impressive and they keep getting better and better with a new S-type R. Infiniti also had some cool cars, but the I35 sucked.
I got to sit in the new X5 which had 315mm tires (20") as well as the new M3 with the SNG tranmission.

Lemme know what you think.

yeah, I was there the other day...that Lotus Espirit was by far my favorite. I was standing by the new lotus when I heard some guy say "nice car, too bad mine's faster"
...maybe he's got a lamborghini, I dunno.
Did anybody see the rebuilt racing scirocco? That was a sweet car....

Someone obviously stole the cap and they put tape there so some dumbass won't pour soda or whatever down there.

If anyone see an M3 cap on a Civic engine, call BMW immediately.

Actually, i wouldn't be surprised if they took the cap off so people wouldn't steal it. Haven't you noticed how a lot of the cars at the auto show don't have shift knobs either? I think they take off all the parts that can be removed.

http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif What is the smallest rim/tire you would throw on there for winter--or would you leave your precious 20" tires on year round?!

Damn I forgot to mention those were some nice pics. We cant go that close to the Lamborghini's at the Autoshow here.
Actually an ex-girlfriend went up to a guy at the display and asked him *really* nicely if she can sit in it and he agreed!!! I lost the tape though

Re: I went to the Chicago Auto Show last night....... (TurboDave18t)

The deal with the tape is that some Expo Centers require that you remove all flammable liquids from the car then seal them. this prevents spills, fumes and stains on the floor. If you notice other cars with the duct tape then it was some kind of requirement. If not then it's on sale on e-bay

quote:

I dont know about you guys but in the Toronto Auto show, the BMW's Mercedes and generally any expensive car is LOCKED.
with the hood shut!

I recently went to the Detriot auto show for the first time and was amazed that nearly every car was open for inspection. For sure, everything under $100K was unlocked (except the Porsches). Even the S-Class and AMG MB cars were open.
Compare that with Toronto (which starts this week), where nearly everything is locked. Often I go to the auto show to see the inside of the car!
