I SO wanted to go to UMCP. I was accepted into the engineering program, went and signed up for classes, got my dorm assignment.
Then the 'rents told me they had no idea how college would be paid for. I am not one for debt so I ended up going to Community College and working full-time to pay for school. Then onto Towson, still working full-time and paying for school. It ended up taking me 7 years to get my undergrad.
I missed out on a lot of experiences by having to go about college the way I did. Take FULL advantage of opportunities as they present themselves, but never take your education for granted....that's the reason you're there. Education is the only thing that can never be taken away from you (barring traumatic brain injury).
Congrats on getting into a GREAT school!

Congrats on the acceptance. I never applied there but I really wanted to go there for quite awhile. But honestly follow exactly his words there and never forget why you're there. party party party, but still put in some time in the books.
If you do it correct the first time, it's alot easier later.

Are you goin' in as a freshmen? I don't know the campus well ... only where my classes have been so far ... and still haven't found the gym

for real? nope I know where the sceince buildings are ... I know where south campus dining hall (never ate there though) and I got lost and was supposedly in North Campus one time ... driving

Oh and I see the stadium, been to the baseball field (friends on the team) and umm oh played on the soccer fields across the st from metzerott rd. People tell me the gym is somewhere on the other side of the staduim but i've never seen it ... haven't driven over that way yet though

Maybe I'll try to find it one day to come say hi

JimmPTL, congrats on your acceptance! I'm sure you're aware that getting into UMCP is no longer an "automatic" like it used to be. Yes, there are parties and sports are still important, but scholastically, the University has transformed itself into a very good institution. Work at it, and you'll get a very good education which will serve you well. I know all these things because my son (also a Vortexer and Moderator) is in his last semester at UMCP. Computer Engineering major, Honors Program, and the company he is going to work for in June came after him last October! Oh, and his father is very proud of him

clangjr, you have my highest admiration for making the effort and completing school the way you did. Really cool to see that you appreciate it. I hope that effort is paying off for ya!

Yea, i dont knwo what dorm ill be in yet. I doubt ill have a dorm room, if i go in the spring

Either way, ill end up going there. My "dream school"

UMCP is all work and no play, esspecially if you have a real major, like you do. i'll warn you, don't get cought up in the crazy dorm life, its like Melrose Place. limit you interaction with females because that how you get in trouble. i'm graduateing this semester in Neurophysiology and there is very little time for any fun. i lived in the dorms for a long time. if you want to have fun you want to live in the denton community or over on north hill. trust me, you'll love it there. but if you live in the cummberland or centerville, your going to hate the school, those kids don't even talk.

PKP is where it is. Although i think MD sucks, you shoulda gone outa state james. its a WHOLE lot different then staying in state, and going to college with the same people you went to high school with. congrats on getting into there, i would have applied, but i think they required an essay

Yeah, ill be a freashman. I'll have to find some way to balence my finances between my car and school
