Thanks the VAG gods... ICBC will have some competition.
I just renewed for a year and it's costing me 1580 a year to insure my Bora.
But thanks to our newly voted Liberal (with our money) government, private insurance will now be available.
Any body got some inside info to what's goin' on?

You realise with private insurance your rates may be even higher than with ICBC? One speeding ticket and the private insurer can drop your coverage....
also if the private insurers are allowed to sell basic coverage, it's going to f*ck up the body shop industry much more so than ICBC has.
Take a look at the BS that was going on in the body shop industry in California until the government stepped in and regulated it.
NO to private insurance. Much as I hate ICBC, I don't think privatizing it is the way to go. I know, I work in the automotive industry.

Guys in BC dont know how good they have it....
I moved to Alberta where there is private insurance and i will tell you a little story....
first my car:
2000 GTI GLX VR6
not a super sports car but pretty quick...
anyway.
NO Accidents within 4 years - the longest they look back at your record here.
NO Tickets within 4 years
1 Comprehensive claim 8 months ago - Theft from vehicle.
Im am under 25 (23 to be exact) and ive been driving since 16
Insurance costs in BC: $1600 with $100 Comp with glass, $500 Collision, 1 mill 3rd party liability
Quoted by 3 private alberta insurance companies:
1. Wouldnt even insure me, said im too risky WTF.
2. 1 year; $3500. with Crap coverage - $500 Collision, $250 Comp(max you can buy), on glass coverage (thats extra) and 1 mill 3rd party.
3. 1 year; $5500. Same coverage as 2. (the reason is that my car is "one of the most dangerous cars on the road" WTF...
anyway, these will go down when i turn 25 but dam i miss BC....
I love ICBC and they are so relaxed on claims... you can claim anything...

chicks are different...
in alberta they get way less insurance costs as well...
everywhere except be discriminates you by your gender... and you age...
in BC its all about your driving record which is fair!!!
i know when i turn 25 my rates will fall but now they are trying to gouge me!!
