I'm worried that if I take the negative terminal off the battery for a while, it may mess up the operation off the keyless locks. When I got the car, the stealer reprogramed it so the locks wouldn't automatically lock when I started moving the car forward, and I want to keep it this way. Anyone have any experience with this?

No it won't mess up your alarm settings or the locks. You WILL need your radio code (its a 4 digit number) to unlock your radio from SAFE mode.
To unlock the radio, use the CD selection buttons 1-4
Enter first digit, by pressing CD button 1 until the first digit appears
Repeat process for digits 2,3,4 with buttons 2,3,4
Once the code is displayed correctly, press and hold SEEK to the right.

On my Golf when I undid the battery I also lost my Auto Up and Down windows. In the manual it tells you how to reactivate them.
