I got a 89' jetta from my friends soon-to-be stepdad. needed a new alternator. got that and installed it but the car refuses to start with the key. I can jump the starter and it fires up fine and can drive around like normal.
Now being kind of a noob to this i dont wanna be messing with things that dont need to be messed with, so what could be the possible problem here? bad wiring maybe? his stepdad says it'll eventually start working, but i dont think it will.
Background of car:
Was owned by the mentioned stepdads parents. Didnt use it much. It basically sat for over year. Probally only driven a half dozen times over that year.
