I'm so lucky right now (pictures of accident)

I was driving home from the West Side Market today and I'm getting on the onramp to the shoreway. All of a sudden, a Chevy Blazer in front of me kicks up this piece of iron and it smashes into my windshield. It's hits no other part of my car, just my windshield and actually ends up going through and landing on my dashboard. This happened in the blink of an eye. Glass went in my eyes, hair, down my shirt, in my head.........everywhere. Somehow I managed to shake it off and follow the guy off the next ramp. He pulled over and have me his info; but it doesnt do any good since it's considered a no fault accident.
I consider myself to be very lucky right now that the piece of iron didn't go through the drivers side and all that glass didnt fly into me. I could have lost control and ended up going into the concrete barrier. Who knows what.
My question is, how much will a new windshield end up costing me? Safelite quoted me 600. But there's a ton of places around here and I think I can find it cheaper. My deductables are $1000 so it has to come out of my pocket. The man who kicked it up isn't at fault for a thing. What's the best price you've gotten on a windshield?

Damn..... someone was watching out for you!!!! Talk about guardian angels flying fast.... I got my windshield replaced twice so far. But I had glass buy-back with farmers, so they paid. Mine came out to just under $1000 each.

I would check your laws, here in utah, trucks have to have mud flaps, so that things like that won't happen. Check it out get something from it.

It was from a Chevy Blazer, and I talked to the insurance company and they said it was no fauly........

Smokes!!!! That's crazy. I heard this girls got impaled in her seat on a highway in FL several years ago from a piece of iron that fell off a truck. Glad you're OK
I'm looking into replacing my windshield too on my golf (crack). I haven't researched it much yet, but I called VW and they quoted me $350 for the glass and $110 for labor. Either way the cost doesn't really matter because I'll have to pay my $250 deductible either way.

That happened to a guy here in Dallas, expect the piece of metal hit him in the chest and killed him instantly!
Someone above is watching over you for sure! Go to church this Sunday and be greatful!

Glad you're ok!!!
Are you sure your insurance doesn't cover the windshield w/o a deductable?
Up here in MA, my insurance comes with a "comprehensive" option that covers all damage done to glass fully and with no deductable (which is why you hear lots of radio ads for glass replacement companies and why they charge such obscene prices...no consumer ever actually pays them directly).

Re: I'm so lucky right now

That sucks!
I work with Farmers Insurance. Everyone out there should consider getting the coverage for GLASS DEDUCTIBLE BUYBACK. It is only about $20/year, depending on your insurance company and state and lowers your ded (at least with Farmers in CA) to $100 for a complete winshield and $50 for repairs. It can save money in the long run.

Re: I'm so lucky right now (Jesperss)

gotta say thats the weirdest thing i've ever heard happening to someone. so glad you are alright though. it demolished your windshield but hey, nothing else! thts a good thing. glad you are ok.
Re: I'm so lucky right now (Jesperss)

Wow, you really are lucky in a sense that you are ok. I would be sure that who ever repairs your glass uses oem glass. Many windsheild repair places use generic brands which is fine but when you sell the car an observant buyer will notice and wonder about the extent of the accident. If you go with generic glass just keep the photos to document the accident.
Re: I'm so lucky right now (Jesperss)

My insurance would pick that up on their tab.
Hope yours does to

Re: I'm so lucky right now (adame)

im on my 3rd windshield and this one already has a stone chip. It's weird how rocks and debris only hit the windshield and not the paint

I bought "the windshield clause" with state farm and they replace your windshield no cost. We have gone through so many windhields in this household its insane.

Call your insurance company again. It's my understanding that some states force them to replace windsheld glass with no deductible.
I replaced the windshield on my GTI last year at Safelite for $350.00. Probably more for a GLX.
