I just put new plug wires in my 1990 Jetta GLI and didn't know what to do with the impulse sensor on the driver's side plug wire, so I cut it off and just taped the remaining half around the new wire. Will this rig job even come close to working or do I need a new sensor. Even if I need a new sensor, how do I put it on? I haven't started it since I did that so I don't know how it runs now yet. Please help. Thanks!

Re: impulse sensor+plug wire changes=confusing (rickmdjetta16v)

the distributor cap end of the plug wire actually unscrews (all of them do for that matter) and you can then slip the impulse sender over it, screw it back on, and off you go. some wire sets even come with the #1 wire already undone for this purpose.
when you do unscrew it, pull it gently to help it along....

you have to wrestle the sensor on there like a mad man. It's a pain but can be done
