installing a CD player...

591 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  rmankidy
I wanted to know if it is reasonably easy to install a in-dash CD (stock) player in the dash... is there anything tricky that I should be looking out for when I install it ... BTW I have a new jetta, also does the unit come with instructions and I believe the key to remove the tape player...
thanks

I'll bite...
I put a Pioneer 4400 into my Jetta a couple months back. Easiest install you will find. Make sure whoever you buy the new CD player from gives you (or sells) the little DIN pullers for your factory HU. Two simple little metal things that pull your existing stereo out. Or you can make some from some wire.
Oh, you will probably need an adaptor harness as well, but they should have asked you about that at the place you bought the new CD player.

thanks for your reply,
I'm assuming that since I'll be installing a vw cd player, I won;t need an adapter...also do you have to disconnect the battery to avoid the alarm from going off ?

I don't know if you HAVE to disconnect the negative battery cable, but you better. You are creating an electrical hazard for yourself by not doing it. Plus, if you're putting in a VW cd player (no, you should not need the adaptor, so long as it is OEM to go in correct model year), your gonna lose your pre-sets anyway. Just dis-connect it. Save yourself a nasty shock.
