Re: Installing both o2 sensors....easy or pay to have done? (vwtechnician)

any instructions for this? and know of a way to tell if they're bad or not? I think mine are, but I wanna pull them out and check them before I buy new ones(actually I might have warranty on them still) but I don't want to take it to the dealer unless I know for sure that they're bad

Re: Installing both o2 sensors....easy or pay to have done? (vagvr6)

get the bentley manual, it tell's how to test the o2's using a volt meter. it seemed to involved when I read thru it the first time, so I just dropped an easy
$200 for some new ones and peace of mind.
as far as changing them yourself, as long as you can get your car up high enough, it shouldn't be a problem. They're positioned so that room for leverage is necessary. Unless they're seized in the bungs, then it may be easier to have it "professionally" done. Just make sure you re-tuck the wire from the rear one back away from the exhaust. Mine catches under the heat-shield and actually clips to it in some areas (you can always use plastic ties). The last thing you want is for the lead to melt, as they are not a cheap investment (almost $200 for a pair of Bosch ones from an internet site).

i need to replace my o2 sensors as well and my bentley (book version) doesnt have any useful information at all
very disapointed with the bentley for my car (2001 gti glx) it has mostly drawings of where parts are but almost nothing about diagnosing problems or 'how-tos' of any kind http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
