Installing components in doors...I need some pointers?

One problem I have come across is, in the door jam, I can't feed the wires through. There is a harness like clip that blocks the route of the wire. Should I drill a hole and use a gromit to run the wire through? Anyone ecountered this before? I swear this harness (for door locks etc) wasnt there in my 96 golf. Any help?

There actually is a connector looking thing that all of the 'door' wires go through. I was very careful and cut a bigger hole through it to run my new speaker cable.

So you actually cut a hole in it...I saw all the pins weren't used but I really didnt want to go hacking up the factory stuff. Then again, it would be easier to do than drilling. What did you use to cut it out with? Do you have a rough Idea of where you cut the whole bottom, top, left?? I will go retake a look at it but its pouring right now.
