Guys, I know this topic has been covered (did the search) but..
I just purchased a 28mm Neuspeed rear sway ($217 from NewDimensions) And I was curious if I needed 2 OR 3 jacks for my car (being that I own ZERO floor jacks)
I read one installation, and it said that I needed to place the jack underneath the spring when I remove a certain bolt... is this true? How much do floor jacks cost?? Dang, this $250 project is turning into a $300+ strapped-for-cash-college-student-headache!!
: (
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Re: Installing Rear Sway (JettaFlavah)

First off, u need 2 jacks .. obviously u need to lift both sides of the car. U also need 2 jackstands, b/c u dont wanna risk working on underneath your car without them. Thats it!
Lift both sides of the car, and place jackstands under the car. Take the jack out. Viola! u can use the jack to hold the strut up while u take out the mounting bolt.

1 jack will work....with 2 jackstands. Lift one side and place jack stand, then lift other and place jack stand. Then the jack is free to relieve some the pressure under the spring as you work on each side.

Re: Installing Rear Sway (FLY-GTI1)

hmm...okay... so say I buy some jack stands... WHERE on the car do I use as a support area?? I've heard a couple HORROR stories from Jetta Owners that a jac actually RIPPED a hole in their underside ... any truth to this?? Just jack the car on a flat surface, I assume???
Where's the best place to buy this??? Sears? Pepboys? Autozone? I'm so excited to install this!!
By the way, my dad made these "ramps" out of wood that will raise my car like 10inches (he uses them to do oil changes... will these work???

Re: Installing Rear Sway (RodG)

wow, two holes!

i drilled the holes, stopped for all these pictures, and still finished in like 45 minutes.
i'd rather have it securely mounted (with nice WIIIIIIIDE mounting points.)
how much does the neuspeed bar weigh?

When I installed my 28mm I used 1 jack and 2 stands. Jack the car up in the middle(by the 2 bolts you replace). while you have it in the air slip the jack stands under each side. Then you can use the jack for support when replacing the shock bolts. To get it back off the stands use the same spot, just in front of the newly installed sway bar.

Please people...DO NOT jack up the rear of ANY VW by placing a jack under the axle beam assembly
...IT WILL BEND!
The rear lifting points are located just forward of the axle mounting bracket and are identified by a "dimple" in the rocker panel on either side.

Instead of jacks, get a set of ramps. All you need is to be able to get under the car and keep both wheels level. You do not need to unload the wheels. The ramps are also very convenient when changing your oil. You really only need jack stands when you need the weight off of your wheels.
