Installing upper strut mount???

So, my 95 Golf GL suffered from the classic upper front strut bushing problem so I replaced them when I installed my revalved (stiffer by True Choice for auto-x) Konis. Problem is I could never get them to seat well enough that they stay up in the tapered hole so I still have the "clunk" but it's just on both sides now (because I did both). Any suggestions? I can't change the mounts to the VR6 or after market or I will no longer be "stock" for racing.

I have koni coil overs on my mk3 and the same "clunck"
I don't race but i would like to remove the "clunck"
Do you know of any options for me?
