what companies do you guys use
i have a clean record and i own the car
but i temporarily put my moms name on the title to get a lower rate
and its like 200 alone for me
Re: insurance costs????? (kazimer)

I got into a serious wreck in 98' (my fault, 50k in damage). Then I got into an accident in 2000 (smaller accident). And I have 3 points on my license due to that last wreck.. I'm 19 and not married, no kids. and my insurance with most companies is about 800 down and 300 a month, the company I am with now (nationwide) is 209 a month

it really depends where you live... in MA its pretty expensive. Im 22, with a 2.0 and pay around 180... thats with two speeding tix, and a $500 deductible...
if you go to college, keep it registered at your home address, thats usually cheaper.

Being so young you are inexperienced as a driver in the eyes of any insurance company. Back in Kentucky I used to pay $1,200 per year for liability on my 84 Rabbit. That's more than what it was worth. Now in Wisconsin I pay close $1,100 total for my 94 Jetta, my wife's 96 Corolla with a $500 deductable on both cars. I am now 25 so things are a little different (easier) for me now. If your address is in the city then the rates will be higher so it may be a good idea to register your address as your parents address to save some money. Can you be added to your parents insurance and just pay them the difference? This may be the cheapest route. I would call around and get quotes from different companies as well. Good luck

nationwide is that much cheaper? I just got something from them in the mail saying they want me to be covered under them...I need to give them a call then. I'm paying 280 right now with 4 points on my 98 VR6 with the title in my name. 2 years ago with my 96 Gti VR6 I was paying 150. Then when I got my 98 I was paying 210....Safeco sucks. All I gotta say is, get good grades so you get the good grade discount! Saves like 40 a month

AHHH! i'm so jealous! i'm 20/f and pay about $230 a month for insurance (almost what i pay on the car) with a $500 deductable, on a 2.0!! i'm on my parents', and actually i'm listed as the driver on the town & country to make it even lower.
i pay $130 a month on my 88 fox with just liablity.
that's unbelievable.

Re: insurance costs????? (BunkR6)

by the way, can anyone tell me why my 97 tornado red golf trek is a 14, and my 97 tornado red golf k2 is a 13?!
i find it hard to believe they consider the options on my trek to be that much more appealing than the options on my k2.
Re: insurance costs????? (ninetyseven)

I'm 16 and have a 96 GTI 2.0. When it was under my parents name I paid $57/month with full coverage and a $500 deductible. Now I pay $185/month under my name with the same coverage. Although I have to use the same liability rates that my parents have which is something near 3/4 million limits. I can't complain too much though, since they let me drive the S4 and TT :}
Re: insurance costs????? (Don't Have One)

Here are a bunch of quotes I got. Remembering that I live in Canada, so the prices are in Canadian $, and it is based on a yearly payment;
Golf 2.0 - 4 Cyl. - 2 doors = $1200
Golf VR6 - 6 Cyl. - 2 doors = $1600
Jetta 2.0 - 4 Cyl. - 4 doors = $1000
Jetta VR6 - 6 Cyl. - 4 doors = $1400
This is with driver's training, an honours college student, clean driving record, and the highest coverage and deductible.
Re: insurance costs????? (JettaMkIII)

I pay 260 a month. That was before the rate change
