What works best is to get ONE car and try each system on it with a dyno (NOT a butt-dyno, "...it felt faster..."). You need to use the same testing environment and change only one thing at a time. Unfortunately, nobody seems to understand this simple method so results vary

Personally, the K&N Cone filter kicks ass. Even though without a heat shield its sucking in hot air from the engine, nothing beats the growl of a VR (provided you have one) with a cone filter. Its just dead sexy!

Yeah I agree, I have a cone filter now but I need to give that back to my friend. So what i think I'm gonna do is get a k&n filter and a heatshield. Does paul still make them? Thanks

Lexan heatshield to keep the nasty heat away... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif doesn't use a metal shield which is known as a great heat conductor.

Oh really? Then explain the heat shields used on cars world wide to protect against heat from turbos, exhaust headers, cat. converters, mufflers, etc. ?
I'm not saying metal is not a heat conductor, however, your marketing needs some work...

I just have a cone filter (sounds schweeet), but in spring time I'm going to make a heatshield out of some stuff my friend has. I guess its 2 layers of aluminum with some honeycomb type insulation stuff in between. For now i still have the bottom half of my airbox in place. I know it won't do much, but it blocks a little bit of heat from below, and feeds a small amount of cold air from the fender, sorry the pic doesnt show it. What my friend did is he left his square filter and cut the bottom half of his airbox off, below the part that holds the filer on, and took his MFA temp sensor out of the bumper and put it up there.

LOL. There is a filter there. It's connected to the pipe right where the charcoal canister used to be. It's a K&N 7" long filter. I'd have to be an idiot to run a straight pipe intake with no filter. Much less post it here!

Chicago is a pretty big villa, I'm sure if you looked around you could find a shop. I suggest focusing on places that focus on VW -- ask the air-cooled shops, they may know some places for water-pumpers. There's alway mail-order if worse comes to worse.

Im thinking about relocating my P-flo to the air duct under the car, like shown in that pic, is there any real difference, or is this a waste of my time - and effort?

You can always check Dubwerks in Libertyville (which specializes in Audi and VW), Drivers Image (which has very high prices) in Skokie, or Evolution (in Chicago) might also be able to help you out. Otherwise, like stated earlier, there is always mail order
