Does anyone know the efficiencyof the stock intercooler? I ask because I know that larger doesn't neccesarily mean better, which seems to be the focus here in Vortex. I have seen various ICs and was wondering what % efficiency they operated in comparison to stock. Any insight would be great. Thanks all. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Intercooler Question. (3wheelinWolf)

Search archived post by Shaka about IC testing between stock and ECS dual intercooler setup. Stock efficiency is in the 7x% range which isn't bad for stock.

Re: Intercooler Question. (AxeAngel)

Great thanks guys. I'll do some reasearch on the Forge SMIC and see what they claim. I'm interested to see if its worth the ~$500 tag.

Test Results : http://www.cosmicmotorsports.com/ari/IC_Testing.html
Anyhow, that shows 70.29 % efficiency AVERAGE based on my testing... keep in mind this was constantly beating the car to death.... acceleration, etc. Read the foot notes. But basically, for a stock IC it is doing a pretty good job. Unless you go the extra mile, you dont need much more.
Also be careful when comparing this to OTHER SMIC setups, like Forge or Forced Performance. They are going to claim efficiency, but how? Based on increased percentage of surface area? Cubic volume? And if they tested like I did (air temps before/after IC compared to ambient) be careful too... my tests were at the pancake pipe and the throttle body... any OTHER pick-up spots would make it uncomparable... (ex: if you tested air at the turbo and at the IC exit point, numbers would change)..
Hope this helps.. good luck...
