Sorry its almost a year old but still very informative. Ever wonder where all the stuff in your VW comes from and how the insudtry looks at the producs vs how you the consumer view them...warning: its long and technical. (has some good info on Nav system though).

One of the areas where Bosch is currently struggling is in navigation systems...

Bosch is now trying to rebuild its position from low and medium level systems with better sys-tems
integration based on more powerful chips. In April 2003 Bosch established a joint venture
with Japanese rival Denso Corporation. The new company, called Advanced Driver Information
Technology Corporation based in Kariya City, Aichi, Japan will initially focus on the development
of large scale integrated circuits for map projection, multimedia-compliant software platforms
and map data formats for worldwide use. The 50-50 operation started operation in June 2003
and will have 50 employees. The new products are expected to come to the market in 2006. But
senior management acknowledges that it will take time to regain the lost ground.

Does this mean no DVD Nav until 2006?

No DVD nav was menitoned here either: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1391716
I don't know why people expected to see DVD nav for 2005?

I guess it would make sense that it takes time to develop and bring to market a new system. What doesn't make sense is that they're still using the old technology to begin with. Couldn't VW have just used another supplier other than Bosch for this particular component rather than waiting for the very slow Blaupunkt to partner with a Japanese company to create something new? Advanced audio and video gear for the car has been available for years. And even when you look at the aftermarket, Blaupunkt, despite being good quality, lags behind technologically (Navigation, Video, MP3, etc.) http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
