Interesting drive home!!!

coming home on the freeway i notice some h.i.d.s behind, soon comes a m5 flying buy, so what the heck i hit it and finally catch up, and let him know that i want to see what that thing has, so he takes off, while i try to keep up, HaHa!!! he was gone instantly. right after a acura 3.2tl wants a piece, i thought i would get killed, but i down shifted and hit it with him, believe it or not, it was neck and neck to about 100 mph, and i pulled a half car length, i couldnt believe but that was pretty cool. Once i got off the freeway i line up with a stock 2.0 jetta and i notice that he wants to go, so im curious to see how much a chip, exhaust and intake makes a difference, we both hit it and as i hoped i pulled pretty nice. i got to say it was one fun drive home tonight.

You're lucky you don't have rampant sled dogs and eskimos in your area. I tried egging one on last week and he almost stole my lucky rabbit foot.

Sounds like a fun ride home. I got to have fun with a stock 2.0 tonight myself. I pulled onto the highway behind him and he goes to step on it, so I do the same. I changed into the left lane and just flew right past him, then backed down to a normal speed. Well, he wanted more and came flying past me, so I got on it and was right on his bumper until the next exit where we both got off.
It is nice to know that my mods do make a big difference in the little 2.0.

Re: Interesting drive home!!! (K-Fresh)

Matt, hasnt anyone ever told you about messing with M5s? I had a lady own me on the highway one day in one. she was hot!
Re: Interesting drive home!!! (2.0lowjetta)

Dude, I kind of doubt that the 3.2TL was really trying. I get to drive my father's TL occasionally, and there is no way a chipped 2.0 would hang with it.
I'm not trying to sound like an ass, but the car has 225hp and a 5spd Tiptronic. For a VTEC Honda engine, it can still chirp the tires going into third. On I-90 from Buffalo to Rochester, it was unreal compared to my Jetta. Just an evil sound at WOT.
Now handling wise, that car feels kind of boat like to me. I'd take my Jetta any day simply because it's so fun to drive. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

whats up joe, how is the vr6 running, i wasnt trying to race the m5, just wanted to see the power that it had. ya, the 3.2 probably wasn't trying but i sure seemed like it, the only advantage that could of helped was it was slightly downhill.

i disagree, the rated hp on the tl and cl may be high, but i know from personal experience that they aren't as cracked up as they could be. i raced a 3.2 tl with 4 people in my car (stock vr6) and completely raped him even tho he was by himself. i was surprised, but i also ran with my friend's 3.2cl type s (ahem, 260 hp) and he had the jump on me from the launch but couldn't pull any further. yeah and he has 100 more hp.
goes to show you what low-end torque means in the end... and another thing, there's NO way a 3.2 tl could chirp it's tires in 3rd from a tiptronic, maybe in heavy rain with bald tires...
oh and another thing, the tiptronic on the cl-s really sucks, i was riding in my friend's and man did it lurch when you downshifted. i would just leave it in regular d... oh and it's ABOUT TIME they came out with a 6-speed in 2002 or was it 2003? can't wait to test drive it!

Oh man, I love M5's. They are, IMHO, the perfect stock car. I used to razz a NSX on the way to work almost every morning. Only once did he succumb to my revving. He smoked the hell out of his rear tires, stopped again, then took off in perfect fashion... sooo smooth http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The VR6 is ok for now. I know what you mean, I've tried to play with M5s before just to see them walk me. I was in my friends Supercharged S2000 once on 405 and we got walked by a stock M5 on 19s...they are impressive cars.
Re: Interesting drive home!!! (TrekRadoVR6)

ya, i do to think those 3.2's are over rated, and for the guy that said "god dam street racers" , is there something wrong with street racing, and if so, why mod your car to be fast, other then racing.

Re: Interesting drive home!!! (2.0lowjetta)

I have a similar story, I pulled onto Route 80 at exit 30 in NJ in 2nd gear. Ran it to 5000, hit 3rd, look next to me and see a black GTI in the far left, im in the far right, I popped it into 4th and got onto him. The two of us stayed togeather doing about 95ish untill exit 47B, I must say, that was the fastest I ever got to work. At one point he pulled on me hard and started weaving in and out, I had to just sit there as I got boxed in then hit like 110 trying to catch up.
The very next day? Same scenereo, only an M5 with about 2" of ground clearence all the way around, I scooted in front of him, and he just stayed on me the entire ride, like exactly 2-3 car leingths behind. Kind of fun

quote:

I don't know why you guys are trying to mess with those M5, because without a supercharge or turbo and more less a 2.0 you have no chance of even being close to that car and don't let it be the new ones. If you had a vr6 maybe you might on had a little but still no chance of keeping up with that M5, so the next time you see one just let him have his way.

Gee thanks for the heads up!!

Somewhat...it was more or less just like a cruise but with only two people, I was not 'racing' the M5...If you read my post I said I got in front of him, and the two of us just stuck togeather the entire ride. The gti on the other hand.....
