Is Batik Blue and Marlin Blue the same color?

Hi:
Sorry if you covered this before. I couldn't find it anywhere.
I was told by a salesman today that Batik Blue (He called it Dark Blue) is the same color as Marlin Blue introduced in 2002. I think they look slightly different (I like the Marlin) but I haven't seen them side by side.
Thanks for your help!

I believe that Marlin has less purple than Batik does, meaning you'll have much less of the "eggplant look" in certain sunlight.

Marlin has more blue in it.

Thanks, Des!
I really appreciate the reply. The salesman was basically treating me like I needed my head examined. He then tried to show me a New 2001 New Beetle (Batik Blue) and a used New Beetle (the same color) to prove his point. Of course THEY were the same color! Your explanation is EXACTLY what I couldn't put into words on Saturday but then again it would have been falling on deaf ears.
Thanks again!
P.S. I would love to hear from others with an opinion, facts or a similar experience.

As a VW salesman who is not completely ignorant, I can back up Des on this one. Marlin definitely doesn't have the same purple undertone as Batik, which usually shows up in bright sunlight. Marlin is more "true" blue.
