GM was using the Muncie M22 at the time, which had straight cut gears (had syncros but didn't need them). Ford might have had a similar 4 spd as well.

Yup, thats why they called it the "Rockcrusher" cause they whined. Very strong though, backed many many big blocks. You can cut/grind off every other tooth of the syncros and drive it like a crashbox, dont need no stinking clutch
