isn't the idea behind colder plugs to prevent predetonation? if you keep the stock heat range plugs and gap them smaller (ie electrodes are closer together) you would have an increase in predetonation. you would actually need to gap larger but that would lend toward misfiring. check the 1.8t tech forums for more (better) answers.
