Is it okay to run a Piper 264 Cam with the stock chip?

Currently, I'm running a Piper 264 Cam and a Garret Ver. 11 Chip on my 1998 GTI VR6. I am getting the Idle Adaptation at Limit code. My check engine light is on most of the time but occasionally resets itself. (I posted this problem here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=166207 )

To troubleshoot the problem I want to temporarily swamp in the stock chip to see if the check engine light goes away.

Um did you get the GIAC reprogrammed for the addition of the cam??

I just bought the car so I don't know. I asked the previous owner but he didn't know either.

You can run the stock chip and will be fine. The GIAC or the GIAC cam chip will just benefit your cams more, but as for problems or worries with the stock chip....none.

I ran my pipers for a over month on the stock chip an never had a problem just a lumpy idle but it never pulled a CE light.

I have 268 cams and I used both the GIAC v11 and the GIAC 268 cam chip. My car was faster with the regular v.11 GIAC.

Wow did it actually dyno with more power on the regular chip vs. the cam chip?

Is your car ginster yellow? Bryan's old car?

Im with BillyVR6 on this one, you can run the stock chip but the garret will compliment your cams. I have Garrett v.11 software but with stock cams, never had check engine light.
