I'm really not looking for a ton of boost but I want to beable to control it. so I figure if you could I would just buy a stock 1.8T turbo off somone and slap it on my VR6.

Sure you can buy the turbo and put it on your car. Just as easily if you ordered a turbo from a catalog and stuck it on your car - you're not gonna be able to use anything more than the turbo itself. It's just a standard K03 turbo.

makin boost at idle...the vr6 will toast that turbo easily..get a straight up t4 and your set...not alot of lag and readily available

its too small for VR, you'd be going thru rpms so fast you wouldnt even notice a whole lot.
its just a turbo just like any other, you would need to get a manifold and downpipe to make it work and it will prolly have to be custom.
you can have a bigger turbo and run smaller amounts of boost, there is no need to buy a smaller turbo.

there is no such thing as a reliable "new" $3000 vr turbo kits.
kids lets do something right for a change.
LSD,
Clutch,
Turbo kit
Proper injectors and chip
FMIC
Thats about $7-8000 when everythings all said and done. now you have a reliable vrT

def dont waste your time on the K03 its way too small and the dp and manifold would be all custom

Ummmmmm......a chip isn't the way to "do it properly" for a turbo setup. Try standalone engine management, or at the least, a piggyback setup like the Split Second.

there are plenty of low boost, "chipped" car's runing larger fpr's, bigger injectors and fuel pumps that run awesome.
my friends and I are looking at doing something like this. I think your best bet would be to do a bi turbo set up, and I say the because it looks like you could use the stock exhaust manifold...I mean if you wanna go cheap and you are good w/ your hands. at least in theory it sounds good...
Re: (blinkinbanana)

for god sakes people, jusrt ante up and buy a kit, your halfassed attempts at manifolds and bi-turbo setups are going to cost you 2X in the long run

It's usually a hit or miss proposition - for as many people that happen to luck out with the ATP chip, a Cartech and an adj. FPR......at LEAST as many, if not more, have had big problems in getting the car to run like it should. If you're going to do it right, you go with standalone engine management or a good piggyback setup. No two ways about it. If you want to do it half-assed and shoot for maybe 8lbs of boost and quite possibly have your car run like crap.....then go for a chip.

Run a low boost, non intercooled turbo...

For how long? And what about the urge to go past 3 psi? Heat kills....
It's gonna cost at least a couple grand at the minimum to throw on a turbo kit.....saving a few hundred bucks for no intercooler isn't worth it.
