But seriously, it's not rusted or anything, but it's dented and dinged, the paint is faded (2 different colors in places!?), the dash is cracked beyond belief, it's riding high on the stock suspension, curbed up 16"s, no bumpers, engine bay is a bit dirty (greasy dust more like, but what's the best way to clean the engine bay?), etc. But it runs great, and I'm doing what I can afford when I can afford it (which isn't much, and not very often).
Am I a bad owner?

No your not a bad owner. If you are trying to fix your rocco up as you can, thats just fine. As far as cleaning up the engine STP makes a foaming engine cleaner that is actually friendly to the plastic and rubber in the engine bay that most engine cleaners will destroy. You can get this stuff at most AutoZones, Advances Autoparts or Walmarts.

my rocco was nice.. but i had an accident it doesnt look so nice now.. it was dent free and rust free paint is fadin on the roof but dats not to bad... my front use to look good all light in them bumper was on good hehe.. no my hood is dented i cant even open it.. hopefully it can look nice again

dude, best thing i did for my engine bay was a pressure washer. spray some simple green all over it and let it sit for a while, and then pressure was it. just make sure you cover any questionable electrical parts (distributor, alternator) so they dont get too wet. now it looks great.

Think I could use one of the ones at the local coin operated car wash? I think I saw simple green on sale at the k-mart down the road the other day...

my friend just bought so can and sprayed it all over the engine except the electrical stuff and sprayed it at the car wash place wher eu u do it urself

I did mine that way. I let the engine cool off at the car wash (it's only 4 blocks for me). AFTER it's cool, spray on the simple green. Let it sit for a little while. I then drove into the wash bay, kept the engine running, an had at it with the 10,000 psi spray. It was easy. Since the engine is running, someone told me you don't need to worry as much about the electrical connections. I drove it home and now it looks like this, not a show stopper, but it's clean

I just used a degreaser from Ardex. Then again I work in a detail shop....
Edit: Upper manifold I cleaned....bottom I didnt.

this is off the topic but thats a big difference between your upper and lower.... Is this Ardex stuff available at retail stores?

dats a nice look.. with the black bumper and red paint job my car is red.. i was thinking bout painting my rims black how did u do it?? and ur bumper was in painted or its it on of those euro bumpers .. i dont know poop bout vw still im still new..

Your before pic looks about like my car, except I've got more dings (and no body kit).
Thanks for the tips on cleaning the engine bay. I'll try it out this afternoon if it's warm enough.

Actually that was a different Ardex product...called Buster. Its not a base, its an acid. I took the manifold off, sprayed it up and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then sprayed it off. Ardex mostly sells to dealerships. Next time the regional rep is around I'll ask if and where you can buy the stuff.
