For an 020 AGB tranny out of a '87 GTI 16V.
Doing a complete rebuild and buying all the parts from 1stVWParts.com. The only part they couldn't get was the pinion shaft needle bearing that is retained in the 5th gear housing. See the part circled in red in the picture. And they even asked their aftermarket parts supply, where they go when VW discontinues parts, no luck.

I looked into getting 50 or so of those bearings in, just to have them, but they're not cheap, so I never bothered.
VW deleted them first in one series of codes, then they deleted the bearing in the rest of them.
Rebuild procedures are that the bearing is to be removed and discarded and not replaced if it is damaged. The retaining screw is also left out on repairs/rebuilds.
So, yank it, and don't run one at all http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
