ユーザ車検 aka USER Shaken:

Shaken (shah-ken) is the standard checkup for ALL motor vehicles in Japan over 250cc. This certification is a mandatory requirement for all drivers, including diesel & motorcycles as well. In order to pass, your vehicle must pass a 60pt. inspection. Most drivers just hand there vehicles over to a shop they trust. Another option is to do the work yourself---> USER Shaken. Costs for an average Shaken run around ￥130,000 vs. ￥40,000 USER Shaken.

Inspection is differentiated by vehicle type:

Thought I'd chime in... there's a vintage VW shop (Bugs, Ghias, Busses, T3) somewhere over in
Bizen, Okayama (岡山県備前市）. Wish I could remember the exact location, but I was without a map on a bus and I noticed it last minute :banghead:
Okayama has a LOT of vintage air cooled cars running around and at the Okayama Dome they have a yearly VW car event in September. At my work PC so I don't have any links handy...

It's been quite some time since this thread has seen any traffic. I remember trying to get a Japan thread going years ago, but nobody was around.

Anybody see any super neato VWs around the streets? There's a mint Cabriolet around the corner from me and a few mk3 Golf wagons that pass by once in a while.
