Jetta 2003 1.8T Cam position sensor improper allocation

I replaced the water pump on my son's 2003 Jetta and am now getting a engine code P0340 for cam position sensor improper allocation. If I am one tooth off on the timing belt, is there a way to clear this code without redoing the timing belt.

If you are one tooth off, I think I would want to remedy that problem, since these heads are of the interference design... You could clear the code with a vag-com, but it will probably keep coming back
