jetta coupe reassembly Lol

When I was picking up my 91 jetta from my grandpa's house, I saw a white jetta coupe in his shop and I reeeeally couldn't resist buying it. It is a 1990 coupe that was originally black, but it has painted cashmere white because 1) match the car because the doors were red 2) my dad's 85 westy gti was this color.

The car already has an ABA swap (pics below are old), 9A transmission with a bolted ring gear and a longer 5th gear, snowflakes and an ultraviolet interior out of an 8v gti

To do list:
  • relocate power steering hard line to attach apron
  • Clean and paint the steel brackets for the throttle cable and exhaust hanger
  • install a sway bar that is the correct size - need to pull this from my parts car
  • trim around sunroof opening
  • door window seals/scrapers
  • vapor shields (1/2 done)
  • windshield fluid shooters and tubing
  • get rid of the lifter tick
  • interior electrics
    • cigarette lighter
    • stereo power
    • dome light
    • visor makeup light
    • trunk light
    • top half of rear defogger
    • new LEDs for cluster lighting
    • hazard switch works but it makes the signal bug out afterwards
    • rear speakers
    • door speakers
  • Interior goodies
    • door cards (1/2 done)
    • rear panels (1/2 done)
    • C pillar panels
    • rear seat belts (need the brass spacers)
    • door pin guides or whatever theyre called i only have one
    • install black rear carpet from parts car
    • install plastic trim that tacks down the carpet
    • plastic perimeter trim that goes around rearview mirror mounting point
    • seat belt guides (1/2 done)
    • driver seat folding stuff (plastic handle/guide, folding mechanism)
    • attach rear bench (need to buy the bolts)
    • get ahold of a mk3 obd2 port harness
    • pull dash to sort out wiring
  • reverse lights
    horns
  • wire up tachometer to the ignition coil
  • third brake light
  • swap out the foam side trunk covers for the carpet ones from my gli
  • scrape the poop off of the dash and hood from when a feathered friend lived in the shop
  • carpet under rear glass in the back
  • Get the front lights fully working
  • buzzing noise at lower rpms
  • splice mk2 windshield washer connector to mk3 harness
  • rear badge
  • splice mk2 rad fan switch and it's connector to mk3 harness/rad fan
  • locate speaker wires to put in stereo
  • swap to my Redline small bumpers
  • car needs realignment - it wanders at highway speed when there is wind and bumps

Excellent choice the 2dr coupe! I believe in the modern era, Vw did a design study for a newer 2 door coupe. The proportions are to my liking in vw products. The 2010-2011 Jetta concept is what I was referring. Detroit motor show.

I remember this concept. I wish they still made coupes, but that isn't appealing like a boat like SUV to wipe tiny cars like ours off the road. Thanks!

The concept car looks very nice...
It is a shame that it did not reach production.
I'll be "that guy" and mention that it's actually a two-door sedan, not a coupe.

We can dream of our budget sports car hahaha

I'm looking forward to it too! The car is actually cashmere white despite how dusty it is. The alpine white mk3 in the back should show the difference.
The ABA in our previous J III was great with a 5 SP M. Shave off another 5-6h lb by dropping it in the Mk II and you got a reliable daily. It’s very capable with a few upgrades and milage will be stellar.

up to 600? jeez i didn't expect that much. That should really help the mpg like you said. Funny how my mk2 jetta is more of my daily driver and yet the ABA coupe will basically be better in every way.
Your cat... shifter... shift linkage thingies... and pedals... Will be mine...

The cat was rusted on and took forever to cut off, but my dad and I got it off. It was a feat of strength.

The pedals... What a pain holy ****ing ****. It took so long to figure out that I didn't get the shifter box disconnected from the main rod. Got all this stuff at least.

The shifter stuff was so much easier... Thank god. Chipping away at the last of the parts that the car needs.
