Hello,
I have a 2000 Jetta, VR6, engine code AFP. The check engine light has been on for a while, with error code P1395. Replaced the ignition coil and the spark plugs, but the same error code remains.
I purchased a vag-com and just ran the autoscan ... codes returned are listed below. I am looking thru the bentley manual and trying to determine what may be causing these codes ... haven't gone thru the test procedures yet from bentley, but will be doing that over the weekend.
I have a new ignition wire set, but haven't installed it yet. The old wires check out within acceptable resistance (~6.2 kOhms) from end-to-end, but after replacing the coil and the plugs (and still getting the same error) I figured the wires might be the cause.
I believe the airbag and passenger window errors are unrelated to the check engine light, but included them below to be complete. I guess I was wondering if maybe someone on the forum has encountered the engine-related errors before.

Sorry for the long post. Here's the summary.
2000 Jetta, VR6, AFP
- New sparkplugs installed
- New Ignition Coil installed
- New Ignition Wire Set installed
Still Getting these errors (same ones I've been getting since before I replaced those parts)
17803 - Ignition Coil Power Output 3: Electrical Malfunction
P1395 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16804 - Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0420 - 35-00 - -
Battery seems to be discharging itself over night. Charged it yesterday to about 14.1 V and this morning it's at 12.1 V.
I'm wondering if maybe I have a grounding problem.

Cleared the codes last night after putting in the new wire set, and drove the car to about 10 miles without getting any error codes. Let it sit for a few hours and then took it out again for another drive. Made it about 5 miles on the second drive before the light came back on. Hooked up vagcom and saw the same error codes as before.
I checked the control line coming into the ignition coil pack per the bentley manual, and everything looks ok. Pulled the battery and verified that the main ground is good. Checked the resistance from the engine block to the main ground, and from the coil pack to the main ground ... both look fine.
Not sure how to proceed at this point. If it were the ECM, I'd expect to see more error codes, and not always these same ones. I've already replaced the coil pack and everything after it, so it seems to me that it must be either the control line to the coil pack or the ECM.
Any advice?
