Re: Jetta Vr6 , turbo? 40k (divminsVR6beast)

The VR is a very strong motor it still has plenty of life in it at 40k, if a turbo system is done right it will take fine to boost. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

You can't say something like that and then not give the backstory.

Re: Jetta Vr6 , turbo? 40k (T0oDamnFast)

Ok, so now I know that my engine can handle turbo, but i ain't sure if the engine is ok. When I accelerate and it gets to 3000 RPM, it starts making wierd knocking sound ( or hammering sound whatever you preffer).
When it gets past the 3000 it stops thou.
Ohh , yeah one more thing now its 44K.
Thanks everyone

You probably need to replace your intake manifold changeover valve (I've had mine done twice).

The turbo or the valve? I think the valve is under $100 plus about an hour of labor, but you may be able to get your dealership to cover it under the powertrain warranty.

I had the same problem until I went to dealer where they replaced the entire intake manifold including the valve and the actuator and all the other bits under the powertrain warranty when i was at 50,000 miles

You are just starting to break your motor in. Turbos are cool, but as far as cost and practicality goes-supercharging is the way to go. It reeks much less havok on your motor...But if you are looking for all out, snap-your-neck, "oh my god slow down before I let one go" acceleration....do the turbo!! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Jetta Vr6 , turbo? 40k (divminsVR6beast)

If you bought a 1999.5 model used, it should have half of the 10/100 powertrain warranty. The warranty is reduced to 5 years or 50,000 miles for any subsequent owners. If you are under that limit, they should fix it for free. You may have to convince them that the changeover valve (also known as a shifter rod) is part of the powertrain.

There is no "rotten egg" smell....
