Any of you who read tuner car shootouts in some of the major mags are probably aware of John Hennessey - he does some crazy stuff like putting twin turbos on Vipers (good for 800+ horsepower). He also (at least among the Corvette circles) has developed quite the reputation for shady business practices. Well, he pissed of the wrong guy and now is in deep lawsuit sh!t.
Readup about it here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=234868
Re: John Hennessey is in big trouble... (ClayM111)
It wouldn't be the first time that a business owner has gone bad and missued funds / property. Years back there was a guy from France who "rebuilt" Ferrari's , GTO's I think . He too made a name for himself and was doing quite well. However things went awry soon after and its pretty much the same story as what we read here. Cars in pieces being parted out and deposits of cash going into someone's pockets.
This is the true beauty of the internet. Bad news travels at the speed of light.
And here I am anaylizing every detail about every CENT I put into my car, and it hasn't even come to 800 yet... (total here people) I mean I feel for him, but please, is it even POSSIBLE to be that stupid with that much $$$$$$????? .... If he really IS that dumb, how in the name of (#*K did he GET the cash in the first place? What am I doing wrong???
Re: John Hennessey is in big trouble... (Big-GTI-Guy)
While HMS builds cool cars, it's amazing that he would put himself in this position (although this is definitely not the first problem with HMS's awful business practices)....stupid. This is a very wealthy individual who trusted John and John took advantage of that (if you saw his sig, he also has a Z06, Z8, and an X5).
Anyhow, you might have seen this on ebay, he hangs out on the VCA board (quite a character), but he made lots of $ off a computer company he worked for and eventually lost it all....he had all sorts of cars, one being an XJ220 that he sold for $150k.
Well, he paid Christian Lassen $160k to paint vomit flames and dolphins on the hood of his Viper
Some guys were talking about this same thing in our Fbody club recently. We started off talking about a local LT1/LS1 tuner, and how some people had terrible business with them, and others had great results (10s on motor
)
Someone pointed out, ALL tuners and shops have bad days and a few underperforming products, some have more than others. We'd all heard about Hennessy, but little do most people know Lingenfelter has been paid full advances before, and months later the cars still hasn't been touched. He's also had a few examples that havn't dynoed as expected. Agostino Race Engines, Motorsports Technologies Incorperated, Morgan Motorsports, they all have good and bad days (those are mostly LT1/LS1 tuners).
The difference is some of the shops tell you to screw off and its not thier fault, the good ones fix what they did wrong often at thier own cost. Unfortunently, mainstream magazines keep funneling big money customers into Hennessy who have no idea, so he has little reason to care about the average Viper owners who just wants to spend 8 or 10k vs 25 or 45k on mods. He really seems like a jerk, I guess he thinks he is God's gift to Viper owners and no one can replace him
Re: John Hennessey is in big trouble... (Crazyquik)
Unbelievable. Unbelievabley stupid as well. The hardest thing in that business is developing a reputation. Hennessey had that and could have easily hired the know-how needed to carry through.
Its bad enough to rip some kid $500 bucks for an exhaust, but >$100k? Only two kinds of people have that much money to spend on a car:
1. The kind that have the resources, tenacity and know-how to put you behind bars.
2. The kind that will have you placed within a large concrete footing.
John better hope the the people he's screwed fall into category #1!!!
IMO, the flames are amazing on that car...and they work cause they're on a bloody Viper. But, who in the phark thought of the dolphins? Jeez...hello...you're driving a VIPER! On that note, I would take that Viper if it was covered in rust...have my own MadMax...
