Just got my GIAC Chip installed today!

Just wanted to tell you guys that I'm officially in the CHIP club now, for my VR6 witch was chipped in Tigard OR., today and it's sweet !!! The VR6 is so much more responsive in all the gears and actually feels strong when downshifting and stomping on it!
Also, I think it helped my MPG as well. My previous best tank of gas was 330 miles, and today I went from Seattle-Portland-and back on 1 tank, and totalled 387 miles, when my gas light went on, so I could of easily had 400 Miles~
Happy Driving!

Yea. Bad gas mileage here too. But anyway, welcome to the club.
Re: Just got my GIAC Chip installed today! (Sg4227)

trust me, as I was driving, I looked at my gas gauge and I had already gone 300 Miles on 1/2 tank! This was running Chevron 92 Octane! This just might of been my lucky day, because I usually only get 280 tops...
Re: Just got my GIAC Chip installed today! (kevinste)

Re: Just got my GIAC Chip installed today! (kevinste)

It sounds like you had someone do it for you. I wanted to ask you why. Isn't it just a matter of pulling out the stock ECU and replacing it with the GIAC? (kinda' like swapping out RAM in a PC?)
Not dissing, just wondering why you paid someone to do it, rather than do it yourself.
Thanks!

i think the GIAC has to be soldered onto something b4 it'll fit where the original ECU goes?
i got Dyno Spot Racing to install my GIAC chip for me ... i kinda watched as they pulled off the weatherstripping and pulled out the ECU holder thing ... but i dunno if i could do it if I had to replace it ...

O, I wasn't sure about that. If soldering's involved, I wouldn't do it either. I am the worst solderer on earth. AWE here said they'd charge me 30 min. labor for it.....I might just have them do it for me.
Thanks!
Re: Just got my GIAC Chip installed today! (VW Driver)

VWDRIVER, I got it installed at Matrix Motorsports. Jeremy and Josh down there are very knowledgeable about GIAC and our European cars.
JKO, Yes I'm sure I have a VR6 and yes I'm positive that I reset it, because it's exactly 190 miles from Seattle to Portland and I filled up and took off at 6 AM and reset my trip; also averaged 30.4 MPG on cruise.
Green GTI exactly what Mencious said, it has to be soldered to work like the normal chip. I also bought the stock chip module, and I watched him do it, and he had to solder that as well, and he showed me how it install it back in before I take it to the dealer for my 20K check up. He pulled the ECU out in about 3 mins...shouldn't be too hard to pull next time.

Re: Just got my GIAC Chip installed today! (steez)

damn! 175-230 is pretty rough. I think the worst I got was 230 but I do an average of 280 every week!
Re: Just got my GIAC Chip installed today! (kevinste)

my best was 310 when the gas chime came on. that's 80% highway weekdays, and nyc driving on weekends

Okay....the part about resoldering the stock for replacement is what had me confused. Gotcha now. I can't wait to get mine installed. Gonna try this week, but work gets in the way!
It seems like a great overall mod. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Just got my GIAC Chip installed today! (kevinste)

Right on, I had my GIAC installed at Matrix too. They really know what they're doing over there, and both Jeremy and Josh are good folks.
Re: Just got my GIAC Chip installed today! (GreenGTI)

GreenGTI, good luck and have fun getting your chip when you do. It really does enhance the VR6 as good as it can...I think you'll be happy.
HATER, coolio man! Man I pulled the impossible today. I had to pull this on the wifey so she doesn't know...she'd kill me but some women don't understand about cars..and how important power is to us.
Anyway, I woke up at 5 AM left the house in Sammamish WA at 6:15 AM arrived in Ptown at 9 AM, drove over to Matrix, installed the chip and out the door by 10:15 and drove directly back to Redmond arriving at 1:30 PM to work till 5 PM....now that's a fu** long day of driving and working!
Later,
Kev

Man . . . I drive a VR6 in Seattle as well . . . I usually get 250 miles until the refuel reminder pops up and I fill her up around 270 miles . . . the most miles i've pushed in my car was around 305 miles . . .
