Re: Just Install Neuspeed Inlet Pipe!!! (1.8t Wolf)

Just got mine in Friday. Nice little upgrade, no downside that I've noticed yet. Did you get a slight increase in turbo whine at about half-throttle, light load? Not objectionable, but just noticable? I wonder if the engineers in Wolfsburg designed that POS constrictive stock TIP as an intake-noise-abatement device?

quote:

It was a bitch but it took me like 1 1/2 hr to do. I notice nice hp gains and it revs faster than before. I cant wait to go to the track on the 22nd

This time is what I spent to uninstall the factory piece. 30-45 min.
Hmmmmm , those guys are L...rs. The hardest thing is to put back that 8mm hose clamp screw. Otherwise nice upgrade. One thing I've noticed is EGT went up by 150 - 200F when driving on a highway, I think it is due to more air coming in and as a consequence a leaner A/F ratio, but this is no biggie, something I can live with. Anyone sees higher EGTs? Oh yeah, and smoother power delivery, too: less turbo kick when launching- less wheelspin. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

which rubber you are taking about: between airbox and intake duct that goes to the front of the grill or the rubber piece that goes to the NS TIP?

Re: Just Install Neuspeed Inlet Pipe!!! (20V1.8Tnut)

mine only took about 30 minutes to install........Did you have access to the car from underneath?
1.I loosened the bolt on the tip/turbo first from underneath
2. then removed the airbox from the top
3. removed cerclip from tip/intake boot
4. then install tip in reverse order from above.

Did you have your mechanic to do the installation?
You cant put the NS TIP on unless you remove the black metal cooling pipe that goes around the intake pipe. NS part is much thicker than the factory piece and would not go in unless you remove the holding clamp that holds the cooling pipe and hold the pipe while installing. I have done the installation on my buddy's AWW/5speed and than on my AWD/auto and in both cases we have to loosen the cooling pipe, and then it is a B...CH to reinstall the 8mm screw. Everyone who says "it is 30 min installation" and then recites the steps: 1...2...3..., just wants to look good and dont want to admit the truth. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

quote:

what I was sayin was how hard it was putting the rubber into the top of the TIP comin from the inlet....had to really give it some..... ummmF!!

I used a tiny flat screwdriver to pry the aluminum sleeve out of TIP and then pulled the hose out by slightly tilting it.
To put it back, first, I alighed the notches on the TIP with the coresponding "ears" on the aluminum sleeve that seats on the end of the rubber hose and pushed it in with a large flat screwdriver from opposite sides.
I agree it is not as easy as some people say
to you and your buddy.

30 MINUTES would have been nice, but it took me like an 1hour and 1/2, then that stupid black water pipe sucks!! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
But to all that did it them selves http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
you deserve it!!

It feels so good when you do things your self and you have no problems!!

I installed my TIP yesterday. But I couldn't get that 8mm bolt back in... Wasted 30 minutes alone, just trying to put that bolt back in. I left it off for right now (because I had to go to work today).
Any suggestions on how to get it back in. Do you think it will hurt anything by not putting it back in?

I put some teflon tape on the hex end of the 8mm socket to secure the screw on it, then pushed the 8mm screw onto the hex, then with a 16 inch drive extention (you can use a shorter one) aligned the screw to go straight to the threaded hole, while holding the black cooling pipe little bit upward and toward the engine and gave the screw a couple of turns to make sure it is in the threads, then attached a ratchet onto the extention and voila, done. Hope it helps.

Did you use a hammer to get NS TIP into its place?
