[VWGolferIII]

There's a little space between the bottom of the knob and the top of the stock boot on my 87 2.0. Is there any way to have them connected without using too much brain power and energy - oh and money to do so? Any tips would be great!

That's normal. You could try to put the shifter boot between the knob and threaded cap to hold it in place and to get rid of the unsightly gap.

buy the momo shifter boot it threds to the knob. No gap. looks good!

yup, brian beat me to it, or you could get the momo hub adaptor, its 25CAD retail...i got it with my knob and boot just cause it looks so darn good...

Take the stock boot, turn it inside out, and then use a hose clamp to secure the very top right under the knob...then flip it right side out again. I have heard this works...but buying the matching Momo boot is how I did it...

yeah, you could use a hose clamp, or you can wrap electrical tape around it tightly... that did the trick for me...
for a more authentic half-assed solution, use duct tape!

You can drill a small hole about 1/2" from the threads, and put a small peg in the hole. The boot will rest on the peg and won't slip down.

I just took the boot, flipped it inside-out while still on the shaft with knob installed. Then I took a plastic zip-tie and tightened the top of the boot to the shaft. Then you fold down the boot and finish the install. It actually holds the boot up very well. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I used the zip tie method at first. It keeps well. Get the MOMO boot though, you will be pleased. I think other boots will work as well if you MOMO is costly where you are. I adapted because mine ws on back order at first.
