JVC KD SH-99 Install..

924 Views 12 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  cdn20VALVE
I'm about to order this head unit and I was wondering if somebody here had experience with the install in a MKIV. Specifically what I want to know is whether this is something that can easily done in do it yourself fashion, or whether I should get a shop to install it for me...
Cheers,
Laurent

if you want to do it yourself and phone support along the way and all parts needed buy it from http://www.crutchfield.com they give you all adapters plus great phone support. They aren't the cheapest but they are the best for support!

u can easily do it yourself by buying the adapter from tweeter. The hardest thing to get are the keys to take the stock radio out. If you're friends with a dealership mechanic, you can ask from them... they have a ton of those. Crutchfield is neat which they give u all the tools but they are pricey.

You can take an old credit card and cut it into long ways strips at no more than a 1/4 inch and that will work in place of the radio keys. I used that method on my jetta and serveral other mkiv vw's

Metra makes the wiring harness you need. Get it for a no brainer install. I have the SH 77 and love it! The sound quality from those dual 24 bit Burr-Brown DA converters is unmatched . http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

crutchfield is expensive... but... if u have amex blue.. u could buy it from crutchfield.. then to to yahoo shopping.. and search for the same HIU... a bunch stores on yahoo sell the HU for mcuh less than crutchfield. You then contact amex to price match because amex blue has a best value guarantee.. something like 60 days or so...This way, you get the lower price on the HU, and still get all the suport from crutchfield. all it takes is some patience for the paper work to be processed and you will get the difference back from amex!
